Hello wonderful IFI Volunteers!

International Friendships has an exciting autumn event planned for November 2nd at Turkey Run State Park located at 8121 Park Road, Marshall, Indiana. We are looking forward to a picnic lunch and the unique beauty of the Turkey Run trails amidst the fall color! We need volunteers mainly to visit with the international students, scholars and their families. Some help grilling hot dogs, setting up the food that IFI is providing and cleaning up before the afternoon hiking will be appreciated. We have some church vans available for transportation. Perhaps a few other vehicles and drivers might be needed if response is good. IFI will reimburse for gas. For those not wishing to hike, there is a beautiful nature center right next to the lower wooded area where we will picnic. There are stairs at the edge of the parking lot down to the picnic tables and grills. I have included the student website text below for more details. Enjoy the autumn colors, a picnic lunch and hiking at Turkey Run State Park! This wonderful park is located in west-central Indiana, not very far from Urbana-Champaign. It offers a very unique and impressive trail system through wooded rocky outcroppings and canyons along the Sugar Creek River. There will be many beautiful surprises, and photographers will love this place! The trails are fairly challenging, with several areas of steps, as well as some climbing over rocks and through some shallow places of water along the paths. It is not very muddy, but be sure to wear shoes that can get dirty and wet and dress in layers – bring a warm coat. You will surely enjoy the adventure of this autumn hike! We will have a picnic lunch at the park. IFI will provide your choice of grilled turkey or beef hotdogs (no pork), buns, vegetarian beans, apples, grapes, chips, cookies and bottled water. You are welcome to bring other food as well. The cost is $15 per person and is payable in cash only (no credit or debit cards). This is for entry to the park, food and transportation. Space is limited! Be sure to sign up as soon as possible, before Wednesday night, Oct. 30th! 

Since the trails are challenging, we do not recommend hiking for children under 6 years old. You will be responsible to watch your children. There is a nature center to enjoy near the picnic area for those who do not wish to hike. No children’s car seats will be available in the vans.  Transportation details will be emailed to those who sign up to attend. We will have just a few pickup locations listed in those instructions and we need everyone to be at their assigned locations on time.
